In the garden.

Skylar has lived at Camphill for about 5 years. He has his own apartment on our 290-acre rural property in Angus where Skylar enjoys working with the teams in the garden and on the land.

At Camphill we follow biodynamic principles, a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition. As part of our commitment to biodynamics, we practice a variety of regenerative farming techniques, including crop rotation, composting, inter-planting, careful treatment of livestock to ensure both longevity and quality, and seed saving. Skylar has been a big help on our farm.

“I like growing stuff, helping the gardener, and selling products from Camphill at the farmers’ markets,” says Skylar. “I like talking to people, telling them what we have for sale, that we grew or made. When I’m talking to customers it helps that I made the soil mix, planted the seeds, weeded the plants, did everything to help that plant grow.”

Skylar can regularly be seen working with the crew around the property, be it helping with marking and felling trees, cutting and stacking firewood, or working for our Maple Syrup Social enterprise, Skylar is a big help around the property. “I like cleaning up the trails for people to hike on. I like to observe what is done in the sawmill then we bring the wood to the wood shop to use. I like working with my hands and the people at Camphill.”

As an advocate of Camphill, Skylar often volunteers to speak at presentations or help with tours of our property. Recently, Skylar gave Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson and his team a tour of our recently renovated greenhouse. “I enjoy talking to the MPP’s and other people who come to Camphill”, said Skylar. “One of my favourite things to do is talk to people about Camphill. I like it here, and I like to make people laugh.”
