Innovation at Camphill: Maple Syrup Social Enterprise

We have growing Social Enterprises at Camphill—including our Maple Syrup Social Enterprise, Market Gardens, and Online Store— that create opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities to learn new skills, create meaningful paid work opportunities, and be innovators in sustainable social enterprise. Our Maple Syrup Social Enterprise offers opportunities for adults with disabilities to be involved in maple syrup production and sales in a variety of different roles; be it through forest management, maple syrup collection and production, product development, research, or sales and marketing, our Maple Syrup Social Enterprise encourages engagement at multiple levels and offers opportunities at every step along the way.

Through our Social Enterprises we are:

  • Developing sustainable businesses with positive social, economic and ecological impacts.
  • Facilitating skills development to support employment, volunteer, and recreational opportunities for adults with disabilities.
  • Highlighting the contributions of people with all abilities.
  • Growing an awareness of Camphill as an excellent organization with a strong reputation.
  • Fostering strategic regional partnerships and outreach.

Virtual Maple Syrup Festival 2021

This year, Camphill Communities Ontario celebrated maple syrup season virtually! Next year, we hope you can visit us in person for a tour and to meet our Maple Syrup Makers, but for this year we have prepared 4 short videos to give you a “taste” of maple syrup season at Camphill.

Our syrup is delicious, but our biggest asset is our Maple Syrup Makers! These videos offer an opportunity to see those with developmental disabilities in leadership positions in our maple syrup social enterprise.
